Not safe metal
Zinc alloy is not the safest material for a lemon squeezer, particularly due to the high acidity of lemon juice. Zinc alloy (often used in die-cast or zamak-style kitchen tools) can interact with acidic foods and beverages. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Food Code (Section 4-101.15), galvanized metal—which relies on a zinc coating—is explicitly restricted from use with acidic foods because the acid can convert zinc into soluble zinc salts. These salts are readily absorbed by the body, and excessive exposure may lead to minor gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or vomiting, although reported incidents from occasional use remain rare. Lemon juice, with a pH of approximately 2, falls squarely into this acidic category and can promote leaching during direct contact.
Amazing!
What a well-made kitchen utensil. Super heavy duty and easy to use. Even with small limes, juice them each and then stack them up and juice them both at the same time. Of all the things in my utensil drawer, this is top notch.
Not Worthy
OGGI Citrus Press is not worthy of its name. Immediately showed it is NOT a “durable” product with coating immediately eroding away. Per AI ‘Yes, there is a moderate safety and health risk. When the protective coating or plating of a zinc alloy squeezer wears away, the highly acidic lemon juice directly reacts with the exposed zinc, creating zinc salts and causing surface pitting. Ingesting high levels of leached zinc can lead to nausea, stomach cramps, and vomiting.' https://galvanizeit.org
